Steve Walters Hog

Congrats to Steve Walters on dulling another broadhead on this big ol’ hog in Central California. Steve has been hard at it all year chasing hogs and turkeys. Come this weekend, he will change his focus to deer, as the D-zones open along the Sierra Range in Eastern California. Good luck this deer season, Steve! And keep those photos coming.

If you have pictures you’d like to share with other enthusiastic bowhunters, please send them to zwalton5@hotmail.com. Shoot straight!

Elam Trophy Room

This photo comes from Donna and Tom Elam in Arizona. As you can see, Tom has traveled all over North America and Africa to hunt big game. And where he goes, Donna is right there on a hunt of her own–scouring local markets and stores for the best shopping deals available.

A couple mounts not pictured are a 117″ Coues’ deer, a beautiful Kentucky whitetail and a monstrous free-ranging Bison from the Kaibab Plateau. And each year Tom adds to the collection.

I have known the Elams my entire life and you will never meet a nicer, more generous family. Thank you Donna for sending the photo. And good luck this hunting season Tom!

 Adam Flynn’s Trophy Room

These photos were sent to me from Adam Flynn. As you can see, Adam has knocked down some excellent blacktails over the years. An equal-opportunity hunter, Adam has taken several Northern California trophies with both bow and gun. What is not included on his wall, is the monstrous black bear he shot this past season (I think because it wouldn’t fit:) ). With a live weight over 500 pounds, and a giant pumpkin head, it is in the Top 10 ever taken in the state of California.

Thanks again Adam for sending photos of your trophy room. I know it got me pumped up and I’m sure everyone else can’t wait to get out and hunt after seeing the size of those bucks!

If you would like to share pictures of your trophy room, send them to zwalton5@hotmail.com. Let’s see who has the best trophy room…

Blacktails and Boars–the California Coast Slam

These pictures were sent to me from hunting buddy Peter Reece. His brother, Chris, was visiting the family cabin a couple weeks ago and snapped some photos of some of the game running around the ranch. This happened to be the opening weekend of California’s archery A-zone, but Chris, of course, is not a bowhunter. Animals seem to know when someone is holding a camera and not a weapon! Let’s hope these guys are still around when Peter has bow in-hand.

Great pictures Chris! Thanks for sending them in. I guess we need to get you hooked on bowhunting if you are going to have animals in bow range during season.

If you, or anyone you know, has some wildlife photos, or anything related to hunting, send them to zwalton5@hotmail.com and be entered into the Photo of the Month contest.

Photo of the Month winner Ken Thompson

Congratulations to Ken Thompson from Arizona for winning the July 2011 Photo of the Month Contest! Ken took this javelina back in January on opening day. It was his first animal of the new year and he hopes there are several more to follow.

Ken Thompson is apart of the camoflauge clothing company Cactuflage and if you look closely at the photo, Ken’s pants blend in perfectly with the surroundings. I didn’t even know his legs were off to the side of the pig until I saw his boot standing out!

Special thanks to Jon Yokley for not only hunting with Ken, but for sending in the photo as well. Good luck this fall guys! If you have a picture you would like to share, send them to zwalton5@hotmail.com and you will be entered in the monthly photo contest.
