                     Rhonda Walton Javelina 2012

Mom and Dad just returned from their annual trip to Arizona, where they were again both able to fill the tags with stinky javelina. Hunting javelina with a bow is one of the most fun hunts there is. If you have not had a chance to do it, I highly recommend it.

Dad took his hog from inside of 20 yards, while Mom made a perfect 30-yard shot on her pig. As you can see from the pictures, both were nice size javelina. Congrats Mom and Dad on another great trip and a wonderful season in the field!

I hope everyone had a great 2011! Each year, after the calendar changes, I put together a review of all the bucks, bears, bulls, birds, and more, that everyone has taken and post them together. Click on the “Read the rest of the entry” below and scroll through the 2011 season on the Weekend Bowhunter website.

Personally, this was a great year for me. But there were some great animals taken this year by friends and family: Troy Elam’s 367″ elk, Dad’s 342″ elk, Shawn Wood’s 170″ mule deer, Paul Schultheis’ and Darin Ball’s 160+” California muleys, just to name a few. Thanks everyone for sending your photos and making this a wonderful year! Enjoy the Pics below…

                          Couple of California Hogs

Archery buddy Aaron Davis sent me this photo of him and his step-dad on a recent hog hunt. Aaron is an excellent shot, just look at his scores in state tournaments over the past year and a half, and he loves to get out and do some hunting when he gets the chance. He also has a late-season archery tag in Southern California, so I can’t wait to see how that hunt goes.

If you have pictures you would like to share, send them to zwalton5@hotmail.com.

Steve Walters Hog

Congrats to Steve Walters on dulling another broadhead on this big ol’ hog in Central California. Steve has been hard at it all year chasing hogs and turkeys. Come this weekend, he will change his focus to deer, as the D-zones open along the Sierra Range in Eastern California. Good luck this deer season, Steve! And keep those photos coming.

If you have pictures you’d like to share with other enthusiastic bowhunters, please send them to zwalton5@hotmail.com. Shoot straight!

Elam Trophy Room

This photo comes from Donna and Tom Elam in Arizona. As you can see, Tom has traveled all over North America and Africa to hunt big game. And where he goes, Donna is right there on a hunt of her own–scouring local markets and stores for the best shopping deals available.

A couple mounts not pictured are a 117″ Coues’ deer, a beautiful Kentucky whitetail and a monstrous free-ranging Bison from the Kaibab Plateau. And each year Tom adds to the collection.

I have known the Elams my entire life and you will never meet a nicer, more generous family. Thank you Donna for sending the photo. And good luck this hunting season Tom!
