Posted on: June 23rd, 2010 G5’s New T3 Broadheads

The new T3 from G5 Outdoors

These just arrived on my door step today–the new T3 broadheads for G5 Outdoors. I have been waiting for these heads for quite sometime and just two weeks before archery season starts, they are here.

The 100-grain, 1 1/2-inch cutting diameter 3-blades are one of the hottest new heads this year. G5 has been struggling to keep up with the demand being created by massive advertising and even more massive consumer demand.

I will be testing the heads over the next few days. Check back for more information in the days to follow.

                            Blacktail Deer Foundation Shirt

I just received an e-mail from Wil Askew of Spot-Hogg. Wil is a talented graphic designer and a hard-core hunter. Being a resident of Oregon, Wil has fallen in love with blacktail and blacktail hunting like so many others. Wil has designed a shirt to help promote and fund the Blacktail Deer Foundation, which has served as a great conservation organization for the diminutive deer of the Pacific Coast.

“I have created some t-shirts to help generate some revenue for the Blacktail Deer Foundation,” said Wil. ”It was founded in 1987 by Larry D. Jones and I am going to jump on board and help them make this the organization that he dreamed it would be. Larry has a couple of the shirts and will be giving one to Dwight Schuh as a birthday gift on national TV. Everyone knows who Larry is and this is a great organization to keep alive for the benefit of the Blacktail in our hunting areas.”

If you are interested in purchasing a shirt, please e-mail me at zwalton5@hotmail.comand I’ll get you directly in touch with Wil.

Posted on: May 7th, 2010 What Stabilizer Do You Shoot?

                         B-Stinger hard at work

B-Stinger Stabilizer

By Zack Walton

For years I considered a stabilizer the least important accessory on my hunting setup. I was wrong.

Not only has the addition of a longer stabilizer benefited my target shooting, it has made the difference in putting animals on the ground. And until I put a B-stinger stabilizer on my bow, I have never had an accessory immediately tighten my groups without changing my shooting form.

The secret? Weight-forward design. OK, so it’s not really a secret. But the patented design has made the B-stinger the only stabilizer available with this technology. When you release an arrow, the massive amount of stored energy transfers throughout the bow, which affects arrow flight. Adding extra weight to the bow can help limit this movement but not solve it. Because of torque created during energy transfer, the weight needs to be moved away from the center of the bow.

Something was needed to combat this phenomenon. Thus came about the advent of the B-Stinger stabilizer and the movement of weight distribution to the farthest distance from the riser. The unique design includes a light, rigid, carbon-fiber rod and places the majority of the stabilizer’s weight in the stainless-steel disc at the distal end. In addition to limiting torque, by moving the mass of the stabilizer farther out, it creates a more evenly distributed weight that holds the bow steadier at full draw. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted on: March 29th, 2010 T3-G5 Outdoors’ Newest Expandable

                                               T3 Closed

                                       T3 Expanded

For as long as I have been bowhunting, I have been a proponent of fixed blade broadheads. They are simple to use, sharp, durable and nearly full-proof. Even in the past several years, when expandables have become all the Rage (excuse the pun), I have stayed away from the design.

The main reason I have continued to use fixed blades is because I have had excellent success with them. I have not found a reason to change. I don’t have to worry about blade performance, or whether or not the heads will engage properly on contact. I just shoot and follow a massive blood trail to the animal. And the most popular selling point for expandables is that they fly like field points. Well, if you take the time to perfectly tune your bow, which should be a priority for every bowhunter, getting a well-designed fixed-blade broadheads to fly right is easy.

But when I got a peek at G5 Outdoors’ new expandable broadhead, it really caught my attention. The new T3 encompasses all the features I would include in an expandable head. From the trocar tip and 100% steel construction, to the 3-blade, 1 ½-inch cutting diameter, this broadhead has the attributes to excite me about expandable heads. Read the rest of this entry »
