Being a weekend bowhunter does not have to be a derogatory description. You can be serious about bowhunting and archery if you hunt two weekends or 200 days a year.
For the vast majority of us, life gets in the way of us hitting the woods as much as we’d like. Just because you don’t get to hunt everyday during season doesn’t mean you can’t be successful. The key is to make the most of your opportunities and maximize your chance of success.
I started this site to give tips, insight, opinions and, of course, updates on my and others’ experiences in the wild. I hope to help others in the same position–short on time and money but long on a passion for bow hunting.
For me, bowhunting has been a way of life. I got my first bow when I was four months old. Since that time, I have trekked, bow in hand, across most of the Western States. From Alaska to Arizona, and many places in between, I have used every experience in the outdoors to further my bowhunting IQ. And every trip and each of the nearly 40 big game animals I’ve taken with archery equipment has helped to make me a better hunter.
I have always had a thirst for knowledge and there is no exception when it applies to bowhunting and archery. I’ve read dozens of books and hundreds of websites, watched hunting shows and talked to just about anyone who will take the time, all in search of expanding my archery and bowhunting knowledge. And I will continue to do so until I can no longer draw my bow or hike a hill.
Growing up, I was fortunate to have parents that loved the outdoors and loved to take me with them. For years, I hunted or fished between 30 and 100 days a year all across the West. During college, I worked at a local archery shop where I learned a lot about working on bows and the technical side of archery. After graduating, I hunted a lot. I also spent time working as a hunting guide and all of my time off hunting for myself.
Over the past few years, I have immersed myself in a demanding career that consumes much of my time. Except for a week or so a year, I have been forced to rely on weekends to do all my hunting. This has made me hunt more efficiently and focus more when I’m in the field. Don’t get me wrong, I would prefer to hunt as many days as I used to, but like many others, “life” doesn‘t allow it.
I’m not complaining either. I made the choice to work in a field that would take me away from the amount of hunting time I was accustomed. I could have continued guiding or found something that would allow me more time to hunt. But this is my current life and I have chosen to make the most of it.
With all that being said, I hope to offer insight to anyone seeking it and would love to hear information from anyone willing to give it on the topics of archery or bowhunting.
