B-Stinger Stabilizer
By Zack Walton
For years I considered a stabilizer the least important accessory on my hunting setup. I was wrong.
Not only has the addition of a longer stabilizer benefited my target shooting, it has made the difference in putting animals on the ground. And until I put a B-stinger stabilizer on my bow, I have never had an accessory immediately tighten my groups without changing my shooting form.
The secret? Weight-forward design. OK, so it’s not really a secret. But the patented design has made the B-stinger the only stabilizer available with this technology. When you release an arrow, the massive amount of stored energy transfers throughout the bow, which affects arrow flight. Adding extra weight to the bow can help limit this movement but not solve it. Because of torque created during energy transfer, the weight needs to be moved away from the center of the bow.
Something was needed to combat this phenomenon. Thus came about the advent of the B-Stinger stabilizer and the movement of weight distribution to the farthest distance from the riser. The unique design includes a light, rigid, carbon-fiber rod and places the majority of the stabilizer’s weight in the stainless-steel disc at the distal end. In addition to limiting torque, by moving the mass of the stabilizer farther out, it creates a more evenly distributed weight that holds the bow steadier at full draw.
Why does a tightrope walker use a long pole with weights at the end? It’s the same philosophy behind the B-stinger. By displacing the weight away from the center of the bow, you can slow down the movement of the bow and, more importantly, the sight. This lack of movement leads to a better sight picture, steadier holding, less target panic and consequently, tighter groups–the goal of every archer.
My first 60-yard group with a B-Stinger
Living on the West Coast, I am predominately a spot-and-stalk hunter. My average shot on the past three dozen big game animals has been 34 yards. Therefore, I practice year-round and always look for the best gear and techniques to improve my shooting. At least my search for a stabilizer is over. The B-stinger offers hunters the best opportunity for making perfect shots on game. Especially for Western hunting where longer shots are the norm.
B-Stinger has also just adapted their stabilizers to be outfitted with V-bar outriggers (which is now legal to use in the Bowhunter Freestyle class for NFAA). Why is this beneficial to shooting? Back to the tight-rope walker analogy: By using a long, dropping pole with heavy weights on each end, a high-wire performer is able to lower their center of gravity. By lowering the center of gravity on an object, it is easier to make the object more stable.
The B-Stinger is not love at first sight. It’s unattractive. It’s bulky. It’s awkward and adds weight. But all of that fades away when you come to full draw and the weight-forward design holds you firmly on the target. And after the release, there is no kick. No turn. No vibration. That’s when you realize that beauty is in the design.
The B-stinger comes in a multitude of lengths, weights and colors to perfectly fit the shooting needs of any hunter or target shooter. There are also models for target setups for freestyle shooters. Check out the B-Stinger website for more details.
Whether hunting from a tree or spot-and-stalk, or staring down the last target of the tournament, we all have to make the shot when the moment of truth rolls around. The last thing that should be on you mind when you come to full draw is whether or not you will hit where you’re aiming. Don’t let that happen. Arm yourself with reliable, effective equipment and be confident your shots will hit true. The B-stinger stabilizer can help you accomplish that.
When results are all that matter, get a B-Stinger.
