Don Martin is putting the finishing touches on a new video featuring one of the best supercub pilots in the world, Loni Habersetzer. Loni has logged countless hours behind the stick of a supercub and with his more than 21,000 off-airport takeoffs and landings, he has made that exciting way of flight his specialty.
In this latest video, Cubdiver: No Second Chances, Don follows Loni over expansive glaciers, through treacherous gorges, up rushing river valleys and everywhere in between. Throughout the entire film, you witness breathtaking scenery and spectacular maneuvers. Click here to see a preview.
I have personally logged many hours with Loni and have seen his talents first-hand. For more information, or to order videos, check out his website at CubDriver749. If you like taking to the air, this video is a must.
I just received an e-mail from Wil Askew of Spot-Hogg. Wil is a talented graphic designer and a hard-core hunter. Being a resident of Oregon, Wil has fallen in love with blacktail and blacktail hunting like so many others. Wil has designed a shirt to help promote and fund the Blacktail Deer Foundation, which has served as a great conservation organization for the diminutive deer of the Pacific Coast.
“I have created some t-shirts to help generate some revenue for the Blacktail Deer Foundation,” said Wil. ”It was founded in 1987 by Larry D. Jones and I am going to jump on board and help them make this the organization that he dreamed it would be. Larry has a couple of the shirts and will be giving one to Dwight Schuh as a birthday gift on national TV. Everyone knows who Larry is and this is a great organization to keep alive for the benefit of the Blacktail in our hunting areas.”
If you are interested in purchasing a shirt, please e-mail me at zwalton5@hotmail.comand I’ll get you directly in touch with Wil.
California may not be known as a state with huge trophy potential, but with such diversity in species and areas, it offers residents a ton of possibilities.
The Golden State is the only state that offers hunting opportunities for all three species of elk: Rocky Mountain, Roosevelt and Tule. California also offers an excellent populations of Columbian Blacktail along the coast range, as well as mule deer through the rest of the state. Throw in antelope and desert sheep, and California has several opportunities for hunters.
Even though California has the earliest deer season in the country, it is one of the last Western states to conduct its draw. The deadline for California’s big game draw is June 2. Applications must be received in the Sacramento office by that date. Mail your apps in early to avoid being rejected.
The draw is conducted on a modified preference point system. For premium deer tags, 90% of tags are awarded to those individuals applying for the hunt with the most points. The other 10% of the tags are available for everyone applying, regardless of the amount of points. For sheep, elk and antelope, 75% of tags are awarded to applicants with the most preference points. Even though the system heavily rewards those with the most points, every has a chance of drawing any hunt.
The booklet has not yet shipped so here is the link to the Big Game Digest, if you want to review it online. Here you will find draw information, applications and statistics. Also, the applications for all species are available to print. Good luck this year!
For years I considered a stabilizer the least important accessory on my hunting setup. I was wrong.
Not only has the addition of a longer stabilizer benefited my target shooting, it has made the difference in putting animals on the ground. And until I put a B-stinger stabilizer on my bow, I have never had an accessory immediately tighten my groups without changing my shooting form.
The secret? Weight-forward design. OK, so it’s not really a secret. But the patented design has made the B-stinger the only stabilizer available with this technology. When you release an arrow, the massive amount of stored energy transfers throughout the bow, which affects arrow flight. Adding extra weight to the bow can help limit this movement but not solve it. Because of torque created during energy transfer, the weight needs to be moved away from the center of the bow.
Something was needed to combat this phenomenon. Thus came about the advent of the B-Stinger stabilizer and the movement of weight distribution to the farthest distance from the riser. The unique design includes a light, rigid, carbon-fiber rod and places the majority of the stabilizer’s weight in the stainless-steel disc at the distal end. In addition to limiting torque, by moving the mass of the stabilizer farther out, it creates a more evenly distributed weight that holds the bow steadier at full draw. Read the rest of this entry »
